Webhooks: trigger and send events

Start automations from your systems and send signed events back out.

Webhooks connect Shard to your own systems, in both directions.

Trigger an automation with a webhook

  1. Create an automation and choose the Webhook received trigger.

  2. Copy the unique URL Shard generates.

  3. Send a POST request with your event data to that URL.

  4. Use the data in your conditions and actions.

Send a webhook from an automation

Add the Send webhook action, enter the destination URL, and choose which data to include.

Verify the sender

Every webhook Shard sends includes a signature header. Check it on your side before trusting the payload.

Retries

If your endpoint doesn't reply with a success status, Shard retries a few times, waiting longer after each attempt.

Tip: reply quickly with a success status, then do any heavy work afterward.
